Console mouse and keyboard: compare complete setups

Start with native input if your game’s controls meet your needs. For controller play on another screen, check official streaming. If a PC cannot stay on during play, investigate a named hardware route. If a powered PC is acceptable, compare a complete software stack: translator, client and dependencies. There is no tested universal winner.

How we compare—and our relationship

We publish GTAMouse and develop ConsoleMouse. This gives us a commercial interest. This article uses dated platform, manufacturer and project documentation, not our own hands-on comparison. ConsoleMouse is in development; neither PS5 nor Xbox compatibility is independently verified here.

The primary sources were checked on 7 October 2026. A documented method does not establish current stock, checkout terms or every-game compatibility. Missing current documentation means uncertainty, not a defective product.

Separate input, delivery and picture

Native input means that the game consumes the keyboard and mouse actions itself. A translator instead converts keys and movement into controller buttons and stick values; game turn-rate limits still apply. A virtual controller recognised by Windows proves only a local output device. A client must accept that output and deliver it to the console. Streaming moves the picture and audio, not automatically mouse aiming.

For direct HDMI play, ask whether the method can send input while you watch the console-connected TV or monitor. For PC viewing, ask which client receives and displays the stream. Do not infer an input-only desktop mode from a hidden window or a smartphone feature. Those are separate behaviors needing their own evidence.

First check the simpler platform paths

Sony explains direct PS5 USB/Bluetooth accessories, not a universal native-game list. Xbox specifies wired USB input in selected games/apps, enabled by the publisher. It also limits mouse use on the system interface. These facts answer different questions from whether your game implements aiming, movement or vehicle actions.

If you only want to view your console game elsewhere with a controller, check official Remote Play before buying mouse-translation software. Microsoft’s current page includes browser-supported devices and Windows 10/11; it is not a cloud-game entitlement or proof of ConsoleMouse compatibility. Sony’s physical-controller Windows instructions are not a virtual-controller compatibility report.

Name the hardware variant before comparing it

XIM’s current PS5 guide separates its wired LAN method from MATRIX plus P5General USB. The LAN route uses registration/Remote Play and a normal console-connected picture; the USB route adds a distinct activator and its firmware conditions. A configuration phone or PC is not automatically a Windows host required throughout gameplay.

For ReaSnow, distinguish S1 plus P5MATE, S1 plus D1 and the separate P5General vendor listing. Our source access does not justify one interchangeable “PS5 adapter” instruction. Legacy Beloader Pro remains its own evidence gap; the newer Besavior/P5General page cannot fill it. The inherited XIM/ReaSnow/Beloader rows concern those PS5 paths. Newly added Cronus/Titan rows name PS5 or Xbox Series separately; none certifies every device on Xbox.

Software: compare the translator and client together

reWASD documents mouse movement mapped to controller stick directions. Its historical 5.2.0 release and PS4 tutorial establish the component idea, not acceptance by Sony’s present PS5 client. PXPlay and chiaki-ng are alternative transports, not proof that every remapper output works. We separate the three combinations below because their input acceptance, licence and build dependencies differ.

Standalone streaming-client keyboard mappings do not automatically provide continuous mouse-to-camera-stick aiming. Conversely, integrated input and streaming is already described by OmniControl and REPL4Y; our planned app is not the only software approach. Their documented offerings deserve the same requirement and evidence checks as ours.

Linux: a candidate stack, not a ready-made setup

input-remapper supplies a possible Linux input layer; evdev/uinput creates local virtual events, while chiaki-ng supplies PS4/PS5 transport. The missing proof is the interface between them: appropriate stick axes/buttons, permissions, SDL identity and client recognition, then actual delivery of aiming, movement and other actions. No preset, install or game test is supplied. [NC-OS08, NC-OS11, NC-OS12, NC-OS13, NC-OS14, NC-OS05, NC-OS15]

PXPlay: current registration, incomplete licence answer

The PC 3.0.0 release notes document remote PSN registration and keyboard-mapping fixes. That supersedes the older shared help’s universal local-only registration wording for this desktop version. It does not prove a full mouse-to-stick aiming mode. The shared help’s smartphone Gamepad Mode skips media processing while the console still sends media; that smartphone example is not a tested Windows HDMI-only mouse method.

The store displayed EUR 12.99 for a personal PC licence when checked on 7 October. It also mentions final USD billing/taxes, so this is not a completed checkout total or our currency conversion. Its platform-sharing descriptions conflict: confirm which desktop systems and activations your purchase covers before treating one licence as transferable. An additional remapper’s licence is not included merely because a client licence exists.

Dependencies and version changes are part of the setup

For a Windows combination, record the current translator tier, virtual output identity/provider, client build, console firmware and accepted input path. Keep a physical controller available when the documented setup or game action requires it. Do not treat a retired virtual driver as automatically suitable for a new install, or as proof that every existing install fails. ViGEm’s maintainer says the bus/client libraries are archived without updates; OmniControl’s main requirements list it for emulation, while its exact role in the selected Remote Play path still needs confirmation.

None of these rows establishes account safety or approval for online play. Read current platform and game conditions for your intended use. Single-player positioning and ordinary controller translation are not a platform endorsement. No macros, anti-recoil or automated gameplay are part of the ConsoleMouse plan described here.

What our planned app changes—and does not prove

ConsoleMouse is one planned Windows 11 x64 app behind both websites. Your own console runs your legitimate game. A powered Windows PC handles input in both modes on the same home LAN: PC → LAN → console. TV Play keeps normal console HDMI connected directly to a TV or monitor. PC Play returns console picture and audio to that same input PC; it is not a native Windows game or cloud console.

The design brings translation, manual GTA contexts and both picture choices into one product. This is a workflow plan, not a tested feature advantage. GTA V is the first validation target; GTA VI needs the legitimate released build. Each PS5/Xbox authentication, input, media, reconnect and game gate must pass separately. Optional Sony-app compatibility is another gate, not a synonym for the independent PC Play client.

USD 39.99 one-time and a 60-minute active-use trial are future targets, not available offers. Equipment is additional. One planned direct licence includes both modes and does not require a second purchase when changing websites. Steam is a separate planned channel; no automatic Steam key is promised. Planned release is within hours of the official GTA VI launch, subject to verified compatibility and release readiness. ConsoleMouse is not yet available to download, try or buy. Signups are currently closed.

The powered Windows 11 x64 input host can be a desktop PC or laptop in either mode; your owned console runs the game. TV/monitor HDMI remains unchanged; PC Play streams back to that same input host. PS5 and Xbox checks remain separate and unverified. [L01, L02]

Maintenance is a dependency question, not a winner

Keep four jobs separate: mouse/key mapping, virtual-controller identity/provider, optional device hiding and the transport client. ViGEm's maintainer reports retirement without updates; this does not mean every installed app fails. A chiaki-ng Windows build is not proof of a current fully open-source Windows mouse-to-stick chain. reWASD + chiaki-ng remains a proprietary mapper plus an open-source client. [N01, NC-OS16, W01, W02, NC-OS02]

The original Chiaki GitHub repository was archived on 19 March 2021 and points to sourcehut; that does not establish whole-project abandonment. AntiMicroX maps gamepad to keyboard/mouse, the reverse of this task, and its README seeks a maintainer. GIMX documents a USB adapter or PS3/PS4-only Bluetooth path, not a drop-in adapter-free modern PS5/Series solution. [NC-OS01, NC-OS17, NC-OS18]

Choose the simplest method that covers your actions

Choose native input first if the title’s documented actions are enough. Choose official streaming if moving the picture matters and you are happy with a controller. Investigate a named hardware method if a Windows gameplay host is impractical. Consider an existing integrated client when its documented tier, devices and platform fit. Assemble a remapper/client stack only when you can verify both halves and their complete costs. Following ConsoleMouse makes sense if our powered-PC, GTA-first workflow fits and you accept that it is not available or verified today.

Before a purchase, write down what you already own and every extra device, cable, licence tier, platform unlock and configuration device. Include delivery and regional taxes where applicable. Ask for a current official method and the exact game/platform/build evidence. A base-price difference, a vendor latency headline or one mouse camera movement cannot replace that inventory.

Before buying, name the console, title/build, input actions and exact route. Does a PC configure the device or stay active during play? Is the picture HDMI or a stream, and is media traffic verified? Which controller, licence, mapping/provider and update burden remain? Documentation is not a successful setup, a current checkout total, measured latency or a tested winner.

Check the current setup before buying

Before buying, consult the current official method for your exact hardware, firmware, licence tier and client build. Check the publisher’s dated statement for your game’s native input and announced platforms. A useful compatibility report identifies the console, game build, settings, translator, output provider, client, network, picture path, tested actions and failures. For performance claims, look for comparable physical conditions and a published measurement method.

ConsoleMouse is independent of Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft. Intentional single-player input is the focus, not gameplay automation. No account-safety, GTA Online approval or comparative-latency guarantee follows from a documented input method.

Frequently asked questions

Can hardware avoid a powered Windows gameplay PC?

The documented MATRIX PS5 paths use powered dedicated hardware rather than a Windows input host. A setup/configuration device is still part of the inventory. This is manufacturer documentation, not our test.

Does any streaming client automatically add mouse aiming?

No. Picture transport, button mappings and continuous mouse-to-stick translation are different capabilities. Verify the client and translator’s exact current combination.

Is PXPlay EUR 12.99 the price of a complete Windows stack?

No. It was a vendor licence display, not final checkout, hardware or remapper cost. Platform entitlement wording remains unresolved.

Can I buy or try ConsoleMouse now?

Not yet. USD 39.99 once and a 60-minute active-use trial are future targets. ConsoleMouse is not available to download, try or buy. Signups are currently closed.
