PS5 mouse and keyboard without an adapter

Yes, you can connect a compatible USB or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse directly to PS5. Whether they control movement or aiming depends on the game. If its native controls meet your needs, you do not need a translator for those actions. Planned ConsoleMouse works differently: it still requires a powered Windows PC.

Updated:

The short answer has two separate checks

First establish whether the console recognises your peripheral. Then establish whether the game implements the intended native action. Buying a translator before checking the second question may solve the wrong problem. We develop ConsoleMouse and publish GTAMouse; this guide is deliberately useful even if direct native input is the right choice for you.

Direct USB setup and accessory settings

Connect your compatible USB keyboard or mouse to the PS5. Sony presents keyboard setup as a faster way to enter text. Under Settings → Accessories → Other Accessories, its instructions describe keyboard language and repeat settings, plus mouse handedness and pointer speed. They are accessory settings, not a general game camera configuration.

Sony warns that not every device works with the console. Read the peripheral’s own instructions and do not treat a USB connector as a compatibility certificate. If the console cannot recognise the device, start with connection and device compatibility rather than game keybindings.

Bluetooth pairing without a translator

Put the keyboard or mouse into its own pairing mode. On the PS5, open Settings → Accessories → General → Bluetooth Accessories, then select the device. Sony notes that incompatible devices can also appear in the nearby-device list. A successfully paired accessory appears under Registered accessories with its connected status.

For a previously registered device that does not reconnect, Sony directs you to Registered accessories, select the device and Connect. These steps establish console pairing. They do not add native control to a game that has not implemented it.

Connected, but no movement: find the missing layer

If text entry works but the game does not move your character, you have evidence for text entry—not evidence that the game is broken. Check the publisher’s current documentation and the game’s input settings. Look for the actual actions and the console edition, not a PC tutorial or an unsupported list of “keyboard-compatible games”. Check the publisher’s dated official statement for native support in your specific game.

Controller translation is a separate control model: hardware or a powered PC turns your keys and motion into controller buttons and stick values. Streaming is another layer, carrying the console’s picture. A stream can carry controller play without adding mouse aiming, and translation remains subject to game controller limits.

Official Remote Play is not a mouse-aiming upgrade

Sony’s Windows PS5 guide names the console, same PlayStation account, its supported PC requirements and physical PlayStation controllers connected over USB. Moving the PC mouse over the stream exposes app controls such as PS, Options and volume. Those controls do not document mouse movement driving the aiming stick.

If streamed controller play is your goal, that official workflow may already fit. If you want mouse translation, the translator’s output and the selected client’s acceptance both need evidence. A virtual controller appearing in Windows does not prove acceptance by Sony’s current app.

If native actions are insufficient

Compare a complete hardware or Windows software stack before spending money. “No adapter” can mean direct game-native input, or software that still needs a powered computer; those are not the same setup. Ask which device stays on, what licences/drivers are required, what displays the picture and what game actions were actually checked.

ConsoleMouse is one planned Windows 11 x64 app behind both websites. Your own console runs your legitimate game. A powered Windows PC handles input in both modes on the same home LAN: PC → LAN → console. TV Play keeps normal console HDMI connected directly to a TV or monitor. PC Play returns console picture and audio to that same input PC; it is not a native Windows game or cloud console.

Our planned app is not a verified alternative for every game. GTA is the first focus; PS5 and Xbox need separate compatibility checks. Minimum PC hardware is still unverified and no game profile is released. ConsoleMouse is not yet available to download, try or buy.

Frequently asked questions

Do all USB or Bluetooth peripherals work?

No. Sony explicitly cautions that not all devices work; appearing in a Bluetooth search is not proof of compatibility.

Do I need ConsoleMouse if my game supports native input?

Not for the native actions that already meet your needs. Check direct input first.

Does “without an adapter” mean without a PC?

Only the direct-native path described here avoids a translation PC. Planned ConsoleMouse requires powered Windows 11 x64 in both modes.
